CWL Executive Positions

  • President – The president is the leader and official spokesperson. She presides at meetings, communicates with the members, is the signing officer for official documents, represents the CWL to the parish and at the regional and diocesan levels.
  • President-elect – The president-elect assists the president with her responsibilities and is prepared to become president at the end of her term. She may also have a responsibility as a committee chairperson.
  • Secretary – The secretary records meeting minutes, keeps a record of passed motions, assists the president with correspondence, agendas, etc. as required and may be a signing officer for official documents.
  • Treasurer – The treasurer maintains the financial records of the council. She receives revenue, maintains the bank account and pays accounts, prepares and monitors the budget and is an official signing officer.
  • Past President – The past president archives documents and photographs and cares for the storage of the council’s history and archived materials. She helps to facilitate the use of the Constitution and Bylaws, and is a guide and support for the council.
  • Standing Committees – Standing committees are liaisons between the CWL as a whole and the membership of the local council. Each chairperson receives information from other levels in the CWL and is responsible for communicating the information and organizing relevant activities of interest.
    • Christian Family Life – The Chairperson focuses on marriage and family, sanctity of life, ministry to youth, disabled, seniors, widowed, separated, divorced and vocations.
    • Communications – The Chairperson provides updates on CWL events for the parish website and bulletin, updates members by phone, submits communications to the Canadian League magazine and On the Spot and works on media relations.
    • Community Life – The Chairperson focuses on the dignity and rights of persons, social and economic justice, refugees, immigration and citizenship, Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace and developing countries, and organizes workers for Santa Maria and Wascana Rehabilitation Centre for birthday parties and bingos, and helps prepares meals at Marion Centre for two weeks a year.
    • Education and Health – The Chairperson focuses on Catholic schools and organizations, Rites of Christian initiation, literacy and continuing education, scholarships and bursaries, wellness and sickness, environment and genetics. Facilitates a yearly post-secondary scholarship.
    • Funerals – Coordinate and serve funeral lunches at Holy Family and provides an Honour Guard at the prayer service and funeral of a CWL member if requested.
    • Organization – The Chairperson recruits members and maintains membership, League resource material, annual reports and life membership, and participates in yearly member recognition.
    • Parish Activities – The Chairperson is the liaison and cooperates with pastoral councils and provides parish assistance.
    • Resolutions/Legislation – The Chairperson researches and reports on CWL resolutions and reports on legislation on issues concerning the CWL.
    • Spiritual Development – The Chairperson focuses on the spiritual growth of members, lay ministries and inter-faith endeavours. Sends sympathy and Mass cards.
    • Spiritual Advisor – Our parish priest attends CWL meetings, provides the CWL with spiritual guidance and supports working together to serve others.
